Design
The Flying Spur Mulliner is a showcase of Bentley craftsmanship, combining the very best features with exclusive Mulliner styling. That includes a stunning floating-diamond matrix grille at the front, with bright chrome accents to match the eye-catching detailing seen elsewhere on the car – from the new lower bumper apertures and Mulliner wing vents to the silver-painted mirror caps and exclusive, grey-painted and polished 22” wheels, which have self-levelling Bentley ‘B’ badges at their centres.
When you unlock the car, the Flying ‘B’ bonnet mascot emerges electrically, its wings lighting up as it does so. And when you open the door to get in, Animated Welcome Lamps by Mulliner illuminate the ground at your feet, with a swirling light projection that ends with the Bentley logo.
Stepping over the illuminated Mulliner treadplates, you will enter a truly incredible cabin, with mood lighting allowing you to choose from a wide range of colours and brightness levels. There is a choice of eight three-colour hide colours layouts created exclusively for the Mulliner model by the Bentley design team. Alternatively, you can opt for your own three-colour combination, drawing on colours from the entire hide colour range. The soft Nappa leather seats feature Mulliner emblems and sustainable olive tan leather is used for appropriate parts of the cabin. Even the presentation boxes that house the keys are crafted in the same leather colours as the interior of the car. Wherever you look, in fact, you will see evidence of Mulliner’s famous attention to detail, from the exclusive Mulliner clock to a silhouette of the car itself displayed on the fascia.
Performance
The Flying Spur Mulliner can deliver both unrivalled refinement and exhilarating power, thanks to the Bentley Ultra Performance hybrid powertrain, an innovative combination of V8 engine and electric motor. Together, they can generate 782 PS (771 bhp) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb ft), translating into a 0-60 mph time of just 3.3 seconds (0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds) and a maximum speed of 177 mph (285 km/h).
It is equipped with Bentley Performance Active Chassis, a suite of technology designed to improve every aspect of the way the car drives, from dynamic handling to comfort and safety. It includes a range of systems including a suspension system that features new twin valve dampers, active all-wheel drive, Bentley Dynamic Ride and all-wheel steering.
A new suspension system features twin-valve dampers, which have made it possible to enhance ride refinement when the car is in Comfort mode, while also increasing control and agility when driving in Sport mode.
The active All-Wheel Drive system gives you all the dynamic benefits of driving a predominantly rear-wheel drive car most of the time, but if the system detects any loss of traction, it automatically diverts some of the engine’s power to the front axle, optimising your grip on the road.
Bentley Dynamic Ride, meanwhile, is an electronic anti-roll system designed to keep the car level and stable when cornering at speed, without compromising the comfort of the ride when cruising.
The car also features all-wheel steering, which offers two benefits. At highway speeds, all the wheels steer in the same direction, so you can change lanes quickly and confidently, with body roll dramatically reduced. In urban driving situations, however, the rear wheels steer in the opposite direction, reducing the car’s turning circle – and making it incredibly agile for its size.
Technology
The Flying Spur Mulliner comes equipped with a wide range of technology, covering everything from digital infotainment and driving assistance to smartphone access and features for enhanced wellbeing.
In the back of the car, the Touchscreen Remote (TSR) enables passengers to control the heating and ventilation settings, music controls and the heating, cooling and massage features in the seats. And because the car is also fitted with the Wellness Seating specification as standard, the TSR can also be used to activate two particularly remarkable features. Seat Auto Climate uses sensors built into the seats to continuously monitor humidity and temperature levels at the surface, deploying heating and ventilation in response, to keep you comfortable throughout your journey. Postural Adjust, meanwhile, makes barely perceptible pressure changes across the surface area of the seat, thanks to a series of air pockets that inflate and deflate according to pre-arranged programmes. As a result, you will feel much fresher after a long journey, with less chance of stiffness or muscle fatigue.
The car features a new air conditioning system designed to block PM2.5 particles – very small polluting particles that can be harmful. It constantly monitors the air quality inside and outside the car, recirculating the air inside if necessary. You can see the readings for inside and outside on the central touchscreen, thanks to a new ‘Air Quality’ panel. The system can even use the GPS system to work out when you are approaching a tunnel, so it can switch to recirculation mode beforehand.
The car features wired and wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®, with CarPlay now able to use the entire area of the central touchscreen. Alternatively, the CarPlay interface can be displayed in the driver’s information panel behind the steering wheel. In addition to using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you can now also download and run third-party apps directly on the car’s infotainment system. The new My Bentley App Studio offers a range of apps curated by Bentley that can access data generated by the car – for example charge levels and fuel data that may be of use to a third-party navigation app.
A range of driver assistance systems are installed as standard. The City Specification makes urban driving easier, with features such as a Top View Camera, Traffic Sign Recognition, pedestrian warnings and auto-dimming mirrors. The Intelligent Park Assist feature can help you identify a space and park, while My Bentley Remote Park Assist allows you to step out of the car and manage the parking manoeuvre via your smartphone – useful if the space is so tight that the door would be difficult to open.
The Touring Specification, meanwhile, adds safety-enhancing features including a Head-Up Display and a Night Vision Camera. It also includes Adaptive Cruise Assist Plus with Lane Guidance and Predictive Adaptive Cruise Assist, which together can control your speed and help you stay in lane on a variety of different types of road.
For remote access to your car, the My Bentley smartphone app offers a range of convenient features. You can use it to remind yourself where you parked or to check whether or not you locked the doors before walking away. You can even use it to pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin to an optimum temperature before starting your journey.
Personalisation
There are seven standard colours to choose from, however the various optional colours, including premium finishes from Mulliner, takes the total number of finishes on offer to more than 80.
In the cabin, there are 15 primary hide colours and 11 secondary hides to choose from, thanks to the inclusion of the Colour Specification as standard. You can choose from Bentley’s full range of veneers, including high-gloss wood, open-pore wood and several technical finishes, such as carbon fibre.
There are many more options to choose from, including three hi-fi systems. In addition to the standard Bentley Signature Audio system, there is the 16-channel Bang & Olufsen for Bentley system, with illuminated speaker grilles and an innovative user interface, was well as the 20-channel Naim for Bentley system, for the most discerning music lover.
